IMPACT ON WEALTH DUE TO COMMONWEALTH 2010

As we all know that world`s one of the largest event Common Wealth Games 2010 has been hosted by India this time. The whole nation was looking forward to this event and entire world was eager to see how India will welcome this event in a better manner. It was really a challenging task for India, how can it manage such a huge event at this stage where the country is in a Developing situation. All the events were decided to be held in the capital itself and you can say that just 2months before the arrival of the games the entire city was under – construction. All the metro links, roads, fly-over were been constructed with a tremendous speed. All man power was been exhausted in these constructions. This really showed the man force and economic superiority of India. The work which would have completed in minimum 2 to 3 years of time was completed in a span of few months, this shows that what exactly we can be but what we are! Was this development not required earlier?
Now we can see a new and a developed Delhi but what if this event would have not been organized here, do still we would have been able to see the new face of the city? No not at all, all the development works would have been going on in a typical Indian style. If we talk about the level of arrangement of the games and hosting the guests the only sentence comes on to the lips is “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED 101%”. If we take a look on the entire event we can say that Delhi has exceeded most expectations. Even why it will not be Rs. 2900 crores was the total cost of this awesome showbiz event. Each and every setup was fully accommodated with all facilities and requirements. All the foreign visitors were shocked by the hosting of India, not even at any stage it seemed like India is still a developing country. All the athletes and team officials of the participating nations was accommodated at the Games Village, which was being developed along the east bank of river Yamuna by the Delhi Development Authority. The village was a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide unmatched comfort and hospitality standard to the participating teams and was developed at a cost of USD 230.7 million. The village was spread over 153-acre area which contains 14 blocks, 34 towers & 1,168 air-conditioned flats that can comfortably house eight thousand athletes & team officials. This much comfort and facilities were given to the participants which was good but my concern is why these funds were not utilized when the nation required it the most. Even now there are financial problems in the nation but why the government does not use these funds instead of increasing the cost of the things to tackle with the problem. Even if 10% of the money which was funded for the CWG would have been utilized for financial growth of the country, there would have been a big positive change in the financial picture of the country. I am not against CWG but my question is that “If India is at such a level then why we are considered as poor country??” Can anyone give me the answer of this question that if a country can spend 2900 crores to organize an event then why more than 40% of the population is still below the poverty line. Still an average income of a poor family is Rs. 30 per day. What is happening in the nation, why rich are getting richer and poor are getting poorer??
These are some questions asked by a common man of the country and he is still waiting for the answer from the concern person who is responsible for this situation of the country.
